I invite you to share in the learning experience I know this summer will prove to be. My name is Shannon Burleson and I am currently a Junior at UNC Chapel Hill. I am a Biology Major with a Chemistry and Spanish double minor. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to study abroad this summer in Sevilla, Spain. For six weeks I will be a student at El Centro Internacional de Estudios Culturales (CINECU). In Sevilla, Hillary and I will be living with a family, taking classes, and going on numerous weekend trips. Once the program is over, my friends and I are traveling throughout Europe for three weeks. I have always enjoyed learning Spanish and hope living with a family in Spain for 6 weeks will finally allow me to be closer to achieving my goal of fluency. I have never traveled abroad so this summer is one of the most exciting experiences of my life. I'm hoping to not only learn the language and the culture and history of Spain, but also about life and about myself. I cannot wait to share these experiences with you!
"In the end, I've come to believe in something I call "The Physics of the Quest." A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you're brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you" - Eat Pray Love
